Hi all,
Am new to this Forum and new to herbs, hopefully I can get some advice and help.
I am setting up a rooftop herb garden for my company and hoping to plant the following herbs:
rosemary, chive, sage, thyme, dill and basil.
Currently doing experiments with a few pots before we go full scale ( looking at a total of 100 long planter boxes, if feasible).
I went around the nurseries but could only find rosemary, dill and basil. Bought them, put them next to the window at the office and they are doing well so far.
Not sure how to get the rest though. Tried planting seeds two weeks ago and so far it hasn't germinated yet.
Can somebody advise where I can get chive, sage and thyme ( tried World Farm too, they didn't have) ? Am willing to pay if you have some to spare.
Also, is it ok to put rosemary in the full sun or should some sort of cover be built above it? I have heard from so many people that rosemary only grows only in the cooler weather but it seems many Forummers here are growing rosemary well?
Thanks for your advice.

most herb do well in partial shade to full sun light and relatively cool temperature. I am afraid the root top has to be partial shade. My Rosemary, basil is in the ground and full sun. I was afraid that the rooftop will cook the plant instead. Chive , sage , thyme don't grow well in my garden. Hopefully you have better luck with it.

Thanks Digitalgate, I was under the impression rosemary likes full sun, but I guess our noonday sun is really unforgiving. I am thinking of sheltering it with a transparent acrylic sheet with some poles to hold it. I have seen those gardening nets though but not sure if it'd defeat the purpose since it'd block out some of the sun. Did you put gardening soil in the ground or was it plunking the rosemary straight in? How do you get the rosemary to root? I tried dipping the cut end in rooting powder and plunking it in water. It's been close to 2 weeks and no root has come out but the stalk of rosemary is somehow still surviving....

Hi I just bought a pot of thyme from the nursery in Ang Mo Kio, near the library , last week. Maybe you want to try there.
For rosemary, it takes quite some time b4 you can see any growth from the cutting, as long as the cutting does not die, there's still a chance it will grow.

Sage can grow very easily from seed or cuttings and do well as long as they are regularly trimmed and not over-watered. Keeps seeds in the dark when germinating. They should be put into well-draining soil when established. My sage plants are kept in partial sun under shade in my driveway so that the rain will not kill them but they are quite hardy plants, easier than rosemary because although the same bug can attack them, I would just clean or cut off the affected part on the sage plant and it would survive and grow well again with some care.

I'm currently growing chives, vined tomatoes, basil and parsley in my balcony. I have a packet of chives seeds with quite a bit left. Let me know if anybody might need them. Boyfriend got me 4 packets of Italian parsley when he flew in from Amsterdam. I will keep a packet and so if anybody wants some, let me know too
