Hi all

Can I have some advice on collecting of seeds pods. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Torenia: I pinched out the wiltered flowers. In a day or 2 will cut out the stalk (flower pinched off. Peel open the flower case (not sure whats the correct term to use)and inside has a small green pod. Cut open the pod and saw tiny beige seeds. a bit damp. Is what i did correct? I threw the seeds with pod onto surface of soil,moistened and left outdoor in bright shade.

Periwinkle: Saw the seed pods but its green. How to collect? Hv yet to try.

Hi digitalgate. Thanx? U mean wait for peri seed pot to turn brown before cutting it off the plant? how abt torenia? Can cut when the casing is green?

U must let the seed pod to ripen before harvest . I have no experience with torenia .

Torenia is kind of the same. Just find the pods and open them to reveal the small seeds. The seeds can be sown green or straight off the pods with no issue at all. They grow well in fine and well drained soil. It becomes a weed at times popping up in strange places..hahha

Xhedrickx..do u know how many days it'll take to germinate torenia seed?

cant remember...definiately less than a week...i think will sprout in 3 days. Direct seed onto final pot is best...they can handle crowded conditions n do look good that way

They grow wild everywhere, from the hanging pots of my orchid, gutter, crackline of the building, this 2 are wonderful and self-seed everywhere. You just have to wait till the seeds totally dried and ripe before you collect them, open a green pod with beige color seeds in there will not be successful as they are too 'green' and young to sow.

I have tried harvesting them when they are still green.
(I find it hard to keep monitoring them. Many times, just not in time to harvest them and they just split open.)

The pod will split open after a few days to reveal the seeds.
The seeds can still germinate eventhough it was harvested from a still green seed pod.

Dear all. Like to share that i found a brown peri seed pod on the soil in the planterbox. Was v excited. Extracted the seeds and sow. There are some still green pods however can see through to reveal black seeds.i assume these pods are ready for seed extraction? Still no luck with Torenia. Can't identify ripe seed pod. But will keep trying..

If you want to collect some best seed pods then you have to select best nursery which provide you good plants seeds. I tell you best online nursery name like Katong Flower shop, Spa Flora, Bedok Garden & Landscape and many more where you can purchase online seed pods.
